Old Skrip Ink Bottles
I love the design of the old Sheaffer Skrip ink bottles but after some time the lids don't really seal anymore. I've seen people who insist that cutting a foam plate to size works well but I found a better solution - plastic wrap. A couple of layers of plastic wrap which is then trimmed to over hang a little bit works great. It's not the prettiest solution but it is very effective.

I am happy to report that my Lamy Studio in the brushed silver finish arrived a few days ago. Overall I am very pleased with the pen. The EF nib is pretty nice. It has a slight hitch in it that I think will smooth out over time. If not I can always send it to Richard Binder for a tweak. I may take it with me to the Chicago Pen Show and see which nib master is on hand.
The fit and finish are acceptable but I think Lamy is slipping a bit. I see a rather noticeable bulge at the end of the pen that is obviously due to the cap end being screwed down too much and the pen doesn't snap together quite as securely as the Safari.
The design of the pen is rather interesting and the clip is unlike anything else on the market. The girth of the pen is average and it is comfortable to longer periods of writing. Overall I am happy with the pen. The writing performance is as expected. Firm but dependable.

I've found really nice flow from the Mont Blanc inks. The bottle design is one of the best out there as well. They've expanded the color selections available so there's no need to be stuck with a mundane color like blue.

In the past I avoided Mont Blanc inks about as much as their pens. A couple of years ago I was looking for an interesting green ink at the Chicago Pen Show and the ever lovely AnnMarie recommended the Mont Blanc and the Noodlers. I shared my concerns and she told me not to worry. When it comes to ink there's very I trust as much and I'm glad I took her advice. Since that time I've been using Mont Blanc's green with nice success and picked up the royal blue and the British racing green. Both are very interesting colors. The British racing green is almost dark enough to be confused for black. Nice flow and performance out of every pen I've tried it in. Consider me converted and a fan.
Now about those pens . . .

By using vintage fountain pens instead of ballpoints you are not using any foreign sources of oil. In fact, an argument could be made that using a vintage fountain pen is actually green since you are reusing an item and you can find inks that are environmentally friendly.

It is that time of year again and we are starting to prepare for the New York Pen Show.
As promised we are back for 2007, but with a new venue, the NY/NJ Pen Show. It will be held in New Jersey, at Newark Airport, just a stone's throw from midtown Manhattan. There are several modes of transportation into the city from our new location and we feel that the change will be beneficial to everyone, including the general public.
The hotel is the Doubletree Hotel , at 1000 Spring Street, in Elizabeth, N.J. just along side the airport. The dates are September 28, 29 and 30, 2007 at the rate of $109. per night. We have also secured some fringe days, either before the show or after the show if anyone wants to extend their stay and use this trip as a mini New York vacation. For those nights the rooms will be slightly higher in cost at $119 per night. There is ample parking at the hotel for both registered guest and daily attendees, at a very reduced rate. (See website for details after March 1, 2007)
Once again, thank you for your interest in this show. If you need any further information please contact me at your convenience and thank you for the opportunity to post this information.
Best regards,

I picked up a new Sheaffer pen off of eBay that has a slim profile and extra fine 14k nib. Nice writer. It's a little like the Targa. I really like it and have replaced my Lamy in my planner. Still carrying the Wing Sung which is now loaded with Mont Blanc Green (even though I really don't like Mont Blanc inks I need to use up the stuff in the bottle and am too cheap to just throw it away).
